Ten Years of Strengthening the Healthcare Safety Net
We almost can’t believe it’s our ten-year anniversary! CareMessage has spent an entire decade connecting low-income patients to safety-net healthcare providers.
Over the past ten years, we’ve exchanged 335M messages with 16.8M patients, in 48 U.S. states. And those messages have had profound impact, driving patients to access care, increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, and reducing HbA1c levels. We’re proud of our relentless focus on improving health equity for underserved and low-income patients who often fall through the cracks in our healthcare system.
Ten years ago, we launched CareMessage with 13 patients seen at a mobile health clinic van. We remember the excitement of the first patient messages going out, and the manual work required to get customers up and running. At that time, we had a small group working towards achieving big dreams. For Vineet, who was planning a career practicing medicine, CareMessage was a way to scale patient impact in a different way than 1:1 care. For Cecilia, whose dad had passed away from cancer earlier that year, CareMessage could help patients to tackle preventable diseases, and possibly catch cancer earlier.
Reaching a ten-year milestone is exciting for us. Although the “how” has evolved, our “why” remains the same: CareMessage drives health equity for low-income patients. We’re focused on the ~90 million people in the United States who face barriers to accessing our healthcare system, with a goal of driving equitable health outcomes and addressing social drivers of health. Along the way, a global pandemic propelled big changes for our customers, and re-emphasized the need for continued focus on health equity.
Our impact on customers and patients is possible because of the innovations we’ve accomplished in healthcare technology. Our relentless focus on designing and building technology specifically for safety-net healthcare organizations has enabled us to grow alongside our valued customers.
As a mission-driven non-profit, we stay tightly aligned with our customers. We share similar goals, and our team is made up of individuals who share commonalities with the patients who receive messages through our product. At CareMessage, the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion are a benefit in helping us to build stronger products for our customers.
What started as a student group at Stanford University has evolved into a comprehensive Patient Activation platform that enables Federally Qualified Health Centers, Free and Charitable Clinics, and Tribal Health Centers to advance efforts in achieving health equity. The last decade has been a journey for us, as founders, and for our organization. CareMessage would not exist without our customers and our donors who are our partners in achieving our mission. We thank them for making this possible, and look forward to how much further we can go together.
